Tutor:

A seven-week course starting on Thursday 19th April 2012,

The course will explore the development of photography as an art form
and significant new way of making pictures from its invention in the 1830s to
the present day. Artists featured include Julia Margaret Cameron, Alfred
Stieglitz, Henri Cartier Bresson and Robert Capa.
We shall explore the
development of photographs through a study of the different types of pictures
made in the period covered by the course. The approach will be thematic, with
investigation of the portrait, landscapes, pictures of events and the idea of
photography as a contemporary art form. We will not discuss the technical aspects
of taking photographs although the major technical innovations will be
explained. Currently the most
exciting class I'm teaching.
