Shiplake is a village by the River Thames in England. It lies about 2 miles upstream of Henley on the west bank. The nearest major town is Reading.

Shiplake is known for the Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta, which is held in early August, and the church where Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809-1892) was married.

Jerome K. Jerome (1895-1927) mentions Shiplake in his book "Three Men in a Boat".

George Orwell (1903-1950), who went on to write Animal Farm and 1894, lived in Shiplake and Henley-on-Thames until he was about 14. He published his first work "Awake Young Men of England" while he was living in Shiplake.
